A whole house water filter is installed at a home's main water line to remove contaminants before they go through the house's pipes. By filtering contaminants at the source, a homeowner can get filtered water throughout their home.

Stainless Steel Filter Housing
Common questions before using our products.
Whole house water filters offer exceptional performance and can provide cost and time savings versus point-of-use filters if you want filtered water from multiple sources throughout a home. It may be cheaper and easier to install a single whole house system instead of a combination of under sink, countertop, and shower filters. This also applies to maintenance, as you'll only need to swap filters on one system instead of several.
Depending on the application and operating conditions, Amwater stainless steel filter housings can last up to 10 years, offering significantly greater durability than conventional plastic housings.
Filter lifespan varies by specification and incoming water quality. For Amwater reusable wire mesh filters, we recommend replacing the filter approximately once a year, depending on actual water conditions and usage.
A 5-inch housing is compact and suitable for installations with limited space or lower water demand. A 10-inch housing offers a balance of size, capacity, and convenient cartridge replacement. A 20-inch housing provides greater filtration surface area and generally allows longer service intervals or higher flow when paired with the appropriate cartridge. Always compare the specific model dimensions and operating specifications before choosing.
Compatibility depends on both the cartridge length and diameter selected for the housing. Amwater offers housings for standard 5-, 10-, and 20-inch cartridges, including selected 2.5-inch and 4.5-inch Big Blue formats. Compatible options may include reusable wire-mesh filters, pleated sediment filters, and other standard cartridges designed for the same dimensions. Check the individual product page before ordering.

Spin Down Filter System
Product use, maintenance and compatibility.
A spin-down sediment filter is a reusable pre-filter installed on the incoming water line. It captures coarse suspended particles before they enter household plumbing, water heaters, appliances, discharged through the flush valve/filter cleaning.
A 40-micron spin-down filter can be a useful first stage for well water containing visible sand, rust, or coarse sediment. However, well-water conditions vary considerably. Water containing very heavy sediment, iron, manganese, bacteria, or dissolved contaminants may require additional treatment selected according to a laboratory water test.
The 40-micron stainless steel mesh is designed to capture coarse suspended sediment such as sand, rust flakes, dirt, pipe scale, and other visible debris. It does not remove dissolved minerals, chemicals, microorganisms, or every particle smaller than 40 microns.
Yes. The Amwater spin-down filter can be used as a pre-filter for either municipal or well-water supplies when coarse sediment is present. On municipal systems, it can help capture rust flakes, pipe scale, sand, and debris entering from aging pipes or water-main maintenance.
Flush frequency depends on water quality and usage. Initially, inspect the clear chamber frequently to learn how quickly sediment accumulates. Flush the filter when debris is visible, after a noticeable pressure reduction, or according to the installation instructions. Well-water systems with heavy sediment may require more frequent flushing than municipal systems.

Kitchen Faucet Filter System
Order updates, delivery and tracking.
The system is designed to connect to many standard faucets with a removable aerator and a compatible threaded outlet. Before ordering, please review the compatibility guide in the product images for our water filter for sink faucets to ensure it fits your faucet.
The ceramic outer layer is designed to capture sediment, rust, and other suspended particles, while the activated carbon core helps reduce chlorine taste and odor.
Yes. The diverter allows you to direct water through the filter for drinking, cooking, coffee, and tea, then switch back to regular tap water for washing dishes or general cleaning. Using the unfiltered setting when filtration is unnecessary can extend the cartridge’s service life.
Use cold water through the filtered setting unless the product instructions state a specific allowable temperature range. Hot water can damage the activated carbon and ceramic cartridge or reduce filtration performance. Switch to the unfiltered setting before running hot water.
Remove the cartridge according to the product instructions and rinse the ceramic surface under clean, cool running water. Gently scrub away visible buildup with a clean soft brush or nonabrasive pad. Do not use soap, bleach, detergents, or harsh chemicals on the filter element, and do not place it in a dishwasher.

Gravity Filter System
Information about returns, refunds and warranty claims.
The system uses gravity instead of electricity or water pressure. Water placed in the upper chamber passes through the installed filter elements and collects in the lower stainless steel chamber. Filtered water can then be dispensed through the spigot. No permanent plumbing connection is required.
Amwater offers 1.5-, 2.25-, and 3-gallon options. The 1.5-gallon system is compact and suitable for smaller households or limited counter space. The 2.25-gallon model balances capacity and countertop size, while the 3-gallon version is better suited to larger households or higher daily drinking-water demand. Consider both lower-chamber capacity and available installation space.
The activated carbon filters are designed to reduce chlorine, unpleasant taste and odor, sediment, and rust particles. Actual performance depends on the source water, filter configuration, flow rate, and remaining filter life. Only make contaminant-reduction claims that are specifically supported by the applicable Amwater test report or certification document.
Replacement frequency depends on source-water quality, daily consumption, filter configuration, and the rated capacity of the selected Amwater replacement filter. Replace the filters when they reach their stated capacity or service period, or sooner if flow remains slow after proper cleaning and priming or if taste and odor return. Record the installation date to make maintenance easier.
Wash the stainless steel chambers and spigot before first use and clean them periodically with mild dish soap and clean water. Avoid bleach, abrasive cleaners, steel wool, and harsh chemicals unless the product instructions specifically allow them. Do not place filter elements in a dishwasher. For extended storage, empty and dry the chambers completely and store the filters according to their individual care instructions.

Stainless Steel Wire Mesh Filter
Quick solutions for common product issues.
The Amwater wire mesh cartridge is designed to capture suspended particles such as sand, silt, rust flakes, dirt, pipe scale, and other sediment larger than its rated opening. It works as a mechanical pre-filter and does not by itself remove dissolved chemicals, water hardness, chlorine, microorganisms, or TDS.
Choose the micron rating according to the particle size, sediment load, desired flow, and downstream equipment. A lower micron number captures smaller particles but may clog faster and create more pressure drop. A higher micron number allows easier flow and is generally better for coarse sand or heavy sediment. When water contains mixed particle sizes, use staged filtration from coarse to fine.
Match both the cartridge length and outside diameter to your housing. Amwater offers 5-, 10-, and 20-inch lengths with selected 2.5- and 4.5-inch outside diameters. A 4.5-inch cartridge is commonly called a Big Blue size. Check the housing’s internal dimensions, sealing design, and cartridge specification before ordering; length alone does not guarantee compatibility.
Yes, it can be used as a first-stage sediment filter for well water containing sand, silt, rust, or other suspended solids. It does not treat bacteria, viruses, dissolved iron, manganese, hardness, sulfur odor, or other dissolved contaminants. Test well water regularly and add the appropriate treatment stages when necessary.
We recommend cleaing at least once per month. Inspect it frequently after initial installation to determine how quickly sediment accumulates. Clean the cartridge when water flow decreases, the pressure difference across the housing increases, or visible buildup covers the mesh. Heavy-sediment well or irrigation water may require much more frequent cleaning than municipal water.
